My wife and I had the misfortune of sitting next to some obnoxious single women at a local eatery.

They were cougars dressed in hockey jerseys cheering on their favorite team.

Their foul language was a definite clue to their relationship status: single cougar desperate for attention. (SCDA)

I want to be very clear here. Obnoxious behavior is no way shape or form a way to a lasting, loving relationship! It speaks of dating desperation and is a huge turn off when dating men.

While bad behavior may attract men in the short run, it will turn them off in the near term. (these women were able to snag a man to sit with them after yelling at him)

Who says cable TV can’t teach us something?

To promote David Duchovny’s hit cable show, Californication, Showtime has put out this short but sweet video on cougar dating. The video’s stars are several divorced forty something women looking for love while dating in LA.

While dating is never easy, being forty and divorced in La La Land must make for one brutal dating experience. One woman tells of a guy getting her number and then wanting naked pictures while another cougar talks about dating a guy her son’s age.

No, no…dating can’t be easy in southern California!

Other considerations for cougars are generational differences and how to best communicate with a younger generation. The cougar with the 23 year old son knows that emailing and texting are his preferred way of communication so she has a leg up on most cougars. That being said, she may still need to communicate with her young boyfriend by phone and God forbid in person. So dating challenges still exist.

As long as your realistic about dating someone no matter what their age, you’ll be in a good position later on down the road when relationship challenges present themselves.
