I love IKEA and I hate IKEA.
Before I go off on a rant let me first explain my love/hate relationship with IKEA.
This past weekend my wife and I went to IKEA to shop for Christmas gifts and to enjoy a Swedish meatball or two. IKEA is also great place to take the kids because you can drop them off at the play area where for 60 minutes IKEA employees will watch your kids for free. So while the kids played, Phyllis and I walked around and looked at IKEA kitchens and furniture.
It was all fun and games until we bought a piece of furniture that would not fit in our car. Phyllis brought the boxes back and asked if she could put them on hold. She was told that that was impossible and that she had two options:
- She could get a refund with a receipt
- She could rent a truck for $20/hour to haul the furniture home.
The furniture cost $20 so the thought of spending the same amount was ridiculous. So Phyllis decided to get a refund until the clerk told her that she had the wrong receipt. It turns out that the self-serve kiosk had old receipts and that she had taken someone else’s receipt!
IKEA would not budge even though the pieces were obviously theirs. What other furniture store has furniture with names you can’t pronounce? The staff acted as if we had no choice as if we had no power yet here I am telling you all about them. Kind of funny don’t you think?
Thanks for helping me get this off my chest. Happy holidays!
