Why are men like this?

Men are genetically predisposed to avoid confrontation because it avoids death! The fewer fights they get into, the more likely they are to survive, plain and simple.

No doubt they’ll huff and puff, but when it comes down to it, most men would rather avoid any kind of fighting. The author calls this the caveman principle but it’s essentially the same thing.
