The scariest aspect of Hal, the evil computer from 2001: A Space Odyssey, isn’t that it is hell bent on killing anyone who get’s in its way, It’s how human the computer becomes in doing it.
Even the things Hal says are all to human: “Just what do you think you’re doing Dave?” “Look Dave, I see you’re really upset about this” “I can assure you that it’s going to be all right” “I’m afraid Dave”
It’s in this context that I’ve observed men and women across America talking with each other more and more through emailing and texting. They are doing this whether dating or married.
Of course no man or woman would ever set about dating their computer, Blackberry or I Phone yet that’s exactly what millions of men and women are doing when they limit their communication while dating to their electronic devices.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, a relationship will never be built to last on emails and texts!
Dating should be the time when thoughtful men and women lay firm foundations of trust and love through good communication. I will guarantee you that this will never be done through your computer!
I was reminded of this three weeks ago when a former business associate of mine told me how she and her husband were communicating via texting. She told me that it was the only way for her and her husband to share their “feelings” for each other.
Maybe she told me this because she knew my feelings on the subject, maybe it was cry for help. I’m not sure. At the time, she seemed pleased with the situation.
Well two weeks later she let me know that her husband had served her with divorce papers and that she would not fight it.
I cover this in far more depth in my just about to be released book: Crack the Guy Code. It’s the only guide to dating and relationships you’ll ever need!
