So yesterday I talked about Paige Wiser’s Chicago Sun Times column on why women should rule the world.
Paige has an 8 point list that was really no surprise to me.
I agree with everything Paige has to say with one very big caveat:
- If women are superior to men at politics, management, and leadership why haven’t they taken the mantle up?
Now Paige gives the answer in her column and I repeated it in yesterday’s column but it bears repeating:
- Women have better things to do!
The question to me is why?
While the answer to this question may never be fully elucidated, I think I can provide a starting point based on science.
Scientists have gone back and looked at death records and determined that men across the world live fewer years than women. During times of war and conflict this is easily explained by all the slings and arrows that men take for the women that they love and protect.
Science has also shown that in good time and in bad, with war and without, men live shorter life spans. This is partly explained by man’s proclivity towards bad habits that ultimately result in their undoing (smoking anyone?) But this only partially explains it.
One of the other explanations is again based on looking at past data.
For instance, men who live with women live longer and live more productive lives. These men make more money and have a better sense of well being.
Those men who choose a life alone will live some 5 years less and make significantly less money.
The last observation that I want to mention is the fact that men have 1300 fewer genes than women. This occurs on the most manly gene of all, the Y. This also explains why men die from a variety of genetic diseases that don;t show up in women. Fortunately or unfortunately, the Y gene has given up much in it’s pursuit of manliness. It’s sacrificed the farm, given up the goat, and bet everything on being a man.
Some would argue that this is barbaric or that men have to forsake their manliness or some other silly thing, but I would beg to differ.
I would argue that it’s precisely because of the Y’s sacrifice that we all find ourselves alive today. it is this sacrifice that allowed our ancestors to survive multiple ice ages, earthquakes, meteor strikes, hurricanes and even the Bush Presidency.
I guess in the end if I were a woman, I’d have much better things to do to!
